Behind the Lens: Shooting the Cover Story for Waste Management Review
At Southbank Creative, we’re always excited to work on projects that combine storytelling with impact—and our recent collaboration with Waste Management Review magazine was exactly that. We were commissioned to shoot the cover story for their latest issue, focusing on an industry leader doing incredible work in sustainable construction and demolition waste recycling.
Meeting the Change-Makers: Erin Matthew of C&D Waste
The feature spotlighted Erin Matthew, a key figure at C&D Waste, whose passion and leadership are driving meaningful change in how construction and demolition waste is processed and repurposed. Erin’s work exemplifies what innovation looks like in action—turning what would otherwise be landfill into valuable, reusable resources.
Photographing Erin was a real highlight of the assignment. Her energy and purpose shone through in every frame, and it was a privilege to help visually represent the story of someone making such a tangible difference in the sustainability space.
A Site That Speaks for Itself
Our shoot took place at C&D Waste’s advanced recycling facility on the Mid North Coast of NSW. To fully capture the scale and sophistication of the operation, we used a blend of traditional ground-based photography and drone footage. The drone allowed us to get a bird’s eye view of the site—highlighting the movement, machinery, and method behind the recycling process.
We aimed to not only document the technical elements but also showcase the human side—the people who make these systems work every day, and the thoughtful design behind every part of the workflow.
